The Boys Are Back In Town!

So far, the day has gone pretty decent, despite the increasing heat. The arrival of heat signifies the appearance of summer, a season I'm used to for a couple of reasons; one reason isn't because you feel like you've been inside a sauna after being outside for only 20-30 minutes.

I left the house around 9:10 and made it home at 11:10-pretty impressive, in my opinion. And, I was able to pick up one issue, since due to Memorial Day, the comic books didn't arrive until today instead of yesterday as originally scheduled. Better late than never, as the old saying goes. And, one of the responses from this issue will be the new quote of the month.

The Charlie Brown team was losing last night at a dismal score of 8-1, I believe; my grandfather and I left a bit early. Today, my mother will be joining my grandfather and I for another baseball game. I hope that things will turn out differently than yesterday. Still, my grandfather stated that you can't win them all. Though, I'm sure he recalls that Charlie Brown has a record of losses-and only a few wins.

Superman/Batman #26

This was part 2 of Superman/Batman #7, but with a twist-a very huge twist that I enjoyed from start to finish; I could read this again and relate to it just as much as Teen Titans and/or Robin, because the main focus was on the characters-on Robin and Superboy, even if in continuity Superboy's dead. (Every few paragraphs, I'll be tossing in a few comments made by either Robin or Superboy.)

Conner did a ton of crazy stuff whenever he was with Tim-right from the start, we find out that he threw a party in the Fortress of Solitude! Though, Tim and Conner are more like their mentors than they would admit-at seeing Batman atop a watertower, Robin wins a bet he and Superboy had made; loser would buy the other lunch.

"I can hear a gnat fart, but I can never spot a guy in a giant Bat suit?!"

Apparently, their old friend, known as the Toyman-a kid this time around, however-has gone missing, and it's up to the Teen Wonder and the Boy of Steel to find him. Meaning, a third trip to Japan. And, surprisingly enough, Robin gets to fly the Batplane! Not something I'd expected to see anytime soon, if at all. While on the way to Japan, Robin and Superboy chatted-and, you find out that Kid Flash wasn't the only one who drove the Batmobile, and caused extensive property damage.

"...The kid missed his deadline because he's probably spending way too much time on the Internet looking for pictures of Raven. And Starfire. And Power Girl."

"I need to spend more time on the Internet!"

"Yeah, clearly that's the moral of this story."

To make a long story short, Robin and Superboy get to face robots-and a lot of them-while trying to save their friend within 30 minutes. From teddy bears to their own mentors to flying heavy artillery, action isn't a problem for these young heroes. And, neither is insulting each other on a friendly basis, which is too hilarious for words alone.

Though, there was one panel I found very intriguing, hilarious and full of teen angst-so to speak-all at the same time, concerning a hot tub. My words alone couldn't describe said panel. Though, seeing Wonder Girl seconds away from pulling Robin into said hot tub with her lasso was somewhat unexpected.

"...You went and found yourself a room full of deadly ninjas...!"

"You have got to be kidding me."

"...And I only found paradise!"

"Conner...you know those are just robots?"

"Yeah. So...?"

"So...we have less than five minutes to find Hiro, and you're...BEING YOU!"

For the two of them to actually find their missing friend, they had to allow themselves to be squished by giant frogs a la an old "Froggy" game from way back when. And, once that was done, they found him-the mastermind behind the whole thing, simply because he'd been bored. As well as lonely, since all he had was his toys and devices-these complex devices-and no one to hang out with. Which is when Robin came up with the solution that solved the main problem. (Superboy said the last response to their friend, by the way.)

"Hiro...just call. You get blue, you get bored, give us a call. Come to the Tower."

"Really? You guys would just...hang out with me?"

"Of course."

"And give me Raven's home phone number?"

"Ahh, no."

"What about her e-mail?"

"Dude, just build one!"

A number of writers-about 26 total-came together to complete this story that the original writer wasn't able to finish, due to his death at the tender age of seventeen because of a fight with cancer. There's another story after the top one called "Sam's Story," and it's well thought-out and I'm sure will touch people quite a bit, if they choose to buy the book.

"We did some really stupid things together and he always did them with a smile." -Robin, Superman/Batman #26
