Angelic Girl of Steel; Destructive Boy Wonder...!
The past few days-Monday, Tuesday and yesterday-have been unexpected, but well worth the unexpectedness, in my opinion. Sure, turning 25 was eventful, but it's been the aftermath of my birthday that's been just as memorable as the 18th.
Supergirl
On Monday I used part of my payment, plus a little extra to purchase a Supergirl action figure that I now have hanging on the wall next to my Wonder Girl one. Said figure was released last week, but I needed to wait until I had enough to purchase it. In my opinion, it was worth the wait.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days
Tuesday I made my way to Borders in another attempt to buy this seemingly elusive book, and was met with disappointment. Upon going by Barnes and Noble shortly after, I found myself rewarded with my patience when I saw the aforementioned book on the stand.
It's truly different, yet similar, to the regular Neon Genesis Evangelion series. Said story is also based off one of the scenes in the final episode of NGE, not to be confused with The End of Evangelion. Shinji and Asuka are childhood friends and Rei is a hyperactive transfer student who lives alone. The similiarity is shown when six students-Shinji, Asuka and Rei included-are chosen to be pilots by an organization called NERV that both Shinji and Asuka's parents work at.
The unexpected moments focus on Asuka and Rei-i.e., when Asuka goes out of her way to retrieve Rei's backpack and items for her after school, and a little later when Rei asks Asuka how she feels about Shinji before Rei herself admits that she is starting to fall for him. Asuka is unable to admit what she feels for Shinji to Rei, instead turning around and running off, saying she'll see her later. This was truly worth the wait and I'm eager to get the second volume of this series.
Robin #151
The four-part series of this saga came to an explosive conclusion and ended in a way I partly saw coming-Robin's ultimate decision against killing Cassandra's father, only to see her do so a few panels later-and not.
The final confrontation between Robin and Cassandra-in this arc, anyway-ended in a draw of sorts. As expected, Robin wasn't able to beat Cassandra, but on the flip side she wasn't able to kill him. Though, it could've had to do with a fire that had started and grew to the point where they had to separate and both were barely able to survive! With Tim having set up a mini-cam at their location before the meeting even took place, his name will be cleared while Cassandra sadly enough, will be branded as a killer.
Things may end up coming full circle, as by the last few panels, Robin will confront the son of his father's killer in Robin #152 and I'm really excited about that; I've been waiting for this meeting ever since Identity Crisis #5 and 6. However, DC Comics may have unintentionally given away the ending to the Detective Comics/Batman: Face the Face saga by describing what will happen in the next Robin issue:
Next in Robin #152, Tim adjusts to life as Bruce Wayne's son in stately Wayne Manor...and then confronts his father's killer. Though, it should've stated "his father's killer's son," instead of the way it was printed. The quotes will be from both of my purchased items from this past week.
"He gives me what I've always wanted...I really like him." -Rei Ayanami, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days Volume I
"Why do I let anyone get close to me...?!" -Robin, Robin #151
