Closing out the Weekend...

For the most part, my weekend has gone rather well-mostly. I bought another present for my mother and have plans to buy her third one later on this week-even if I have to give up the remnant of my money. The way it ended could use with a damn rewrite, but I'll get to that a bit later.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
This was an astounding movie, in my opinion. The special effects and the way it flowed was amazing. (This would be a spoiler warning-so to speak-for those who haven't yet seen the movie.) I was impressed with Aslan since his first appearance and all the way up until he left the Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve near the end of the movie. With Peter as the eldest, it's only understandable how he took leadership when it was needed. I enjoyed how Edmund redeemed himself and faced the White Witch during the heated points of the battle. Lucy and Sarah pulled through when they were needed and helped Aslan and the others that had been turned to stone by the aforementioned White Witch join in the closing moments of the battle. I have no doubt that this movie will be one to buy when it's released onto DVD/video.
Danger Girl #1-2 of 4
I mentioned during my last post of Danger Girl #1 that I would explain what this saga is about, and I intend to keep my word. Two girls-Abbey and Sydney-are part of a spy organization and they are known as the Danger Girls. (Cliched, but what can you do?) In this adventure, the two of them are supposed to find an ancient artifact called the Black Seed that's supposed to hold mystical powers.
There are humorous bits in this one, during the beginning in which Abbey saves her favorite store from being robbed by beating up the individuals while "absentmindedly" minding her own business during her shopping. Another humorous moment is midway through the book-and, a bit surprising-when Sydney loses her corset down the road-and isn't wearing a bra-and two truckers take her picture; she does get her corset back, but has to contend with a rattlesnake at the same time.
The second issue doesn't feature the girls that much in it, but it does focus on someone who they ran into in the last book-a girl named Ruby. It's revealed that Ruby is a double agent, leading Abbey and Sydney in a trap that isn't put into play until the end of the book. Can't wait for January to arrive, but that won't happen until a few more weeks pass.
JLA #121
This back issue, focused on the "World without a Justice League" saga, was released in late October, but interestingly enough was still in the comic book store when I went in today after seeing the movie. This issue focused on Green Arrow, Black Canary, Green Lantern and their "potential" hope for a new League member-Nightwing. As Green Arrow put it, "if Batman is watching our every move...then I have the perfect candidate to return the compliment."
The Scourge of Darkest Evil-as he was named in the novelization of "Batman & Robin" eons ago-saw through Green Arrow's mind games and refused to join. I was pleased that Nightwing stuck by his mentor, even if they have had their issues.
JLA #122
This issue was released only last month, but still focuses on the aforementioned saga. It's also an Infinite Crisis crossover, since OMACs are involved. This month's League candidate-another favorite of mine-is Supergirl. I wasn't entirely pleased that Green Arrow kept certain points from the current Girl of Steel, but since things are strained between the team once known as the Justice League, and the members who are recruiting their own members, perhaps things will be resolved a few months from now. Or maybe that's just optimism talking.
To make a long story short, the OMACs showed up, Supergirl, Green Lantern and the others engaged them in battle, Black Canary, Flash and Aquaman-along with a returning Red Tornado-came to help, things were resolved somewhat, and Donna Troy showed up at the end with an awesome response to Green Arrow's "YOU'RE DEAD!?" exclamation:
"Come on, Green Arrow-you should know better than most-dead's not what is used to be."
Due to getting home-and being ignored by certain people online whose names won't be mentioned out of respect-my mood has been soured quite a bit. I replaced one of my created icons with another and may do the same with the other one; I'm not sure yet.
