white_tiger: Tigerzord! (The Amazing Spider-Man #529)

Other than being woken up by the morning rain showers that poured down until around 9:00 AM, my day has gone exceptionally well. I went into work, did what I needed to do there, headed down to Heroes, bought two DC Comics issues-as well as two Marvel Comics issues; hence the subject header-got home, worked on my assignment for my evening class, called my grandfather-but didn't get to talk with him long, since he was planning on going somewhere for a while-and got online for a short time.

This update, strangely enough, due to my specific detail, took me virtually over an hour to complete. Next week, I'm going to try and cut the time in half-if I can.

Batgirl #72

This issue honestly did not go the way I had figured it would go. The DC Comics solicitation was misleading, though I could be mistaken on that. Batgirl was indeed involved in a struggle for survival against her "brother," known as Mad Dog; a truly weird name, to be honest.

Her confrontation with this...individual went all around the woods, and I was reminded of one of Cassandra's first words, since she said it to her adversary-stop. Shiva gave Cassandra some sage advice, and if-key word, if-the solicitation wasn't misleading, then the obvious answer to that question asked back in the Destruction's Daughter 5-part saga is the right one; Lady Shiva is, in fact, Cassandra's mother.

Unfortunately, that advice may have been given at the wrong time, since Mad Dog went to attack one of the two people Batgirl was trying to protect. In an instinctive move, Cassandra threw herself straight into the path of his knife, and it seemed to go right through her body! She was barely able to punch him, kick him across the face and knock him out before succumbing to her near fatal injury.

Shiva's response on the next-to-last page could be a precursor to the upcoming final issue, which will be out next month: "Heroes are forever. The rest of us are just parts of the story." What I thought was a tearjerker was the big panel below that response, with Cassandra-her spirit, I assume-being carried by Stephanie, both heroines in their respective costumes, san their masks.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4

Jumping from one company's book to another's, this is the start of the conclusion to the 12-part The Other: Evolve or Die saga with everyone's favorite wall-crawler, Spider-Man! (I know I probably have over two month's worth of back issues to try and find now, but they shouldn't be that hard to track, since they're relatively new and variant editions of those issues are released by Marvel Comics.)

This issue starts where the last one left off-so to speak. Spidey is being examined by the doctors at Stark Industries ever since they found out about his rebirth. From my viewpoint, I'd say he's fine, but Marvel has this little habit of slapping me-and others-across the face if we get too optimistic about things. Case in point-Peter's powers have evolved, for one thing. His spider-sense changed to the point where if anyone makes a sudden movement around him, his body thinks he's under attack and it simply reacts. For another thing, his spider-sense also alerts him to trouble that's spider-related.

And, to add a third piece of burning wood into the mix, Peter finds out that his old body-his old skin-has been eaten by at least over 1,000 pirate spiders; the mimetidae family, genus ero-otherwise known as cannibal spiders, since they feed on other spiders. Oh-and, to add something really cool into this, when Spider-Man prepared himself for battle in both of his books, stingers came out of both his wrists!

(I expect that people will be reading quite a lot of "don't die, Peter!" "Been there, done that." quips when this saga comes to a close.)

Infinite Crisis #4

Jumping back to the first company, this part of the mini-saga had a mixture of both good news and bad news in it! First off: Blüdhaven ends up virtually destroyed when a villain named Chemo dropped from the sky, and the city's now filled with a ton of radiation! (I wasn't able to pick up Nightwing #116, which ties into this book, but I got to read it-both Batman and Superman make appearances in the issue, which was stunning.)

Superboy was finally confronted by Superboy-Prime, and the results were explosive! (snickers) Conner's response to Superboy-Prime was hilarious:

Superboy-Prime: S-Say it.

Superboy: Say what?! That I can't believe you're wearing underwear that tight?

And, after that remark, Conner was sent flying away from the farm and ended up crashing through the Welcome to Smallville city limits sign! Good thing for Kon-El, he's been bonding with Krypto, and the dog bit into Sboy-Prime's shoulder, and got punched and kicked for punishment. After being beaten up some more, Conner did one of the smartest moves ever since putting himself under house arrest-he'd pressed that Titans communicator/signal Raven gave him back in Teen Titans #26, and a number of Titans, JSA members and Doom Patrol members included, showed up to help out!

Unfortunately, the Titans may have to add a few more statues to that Titans Memorial Room back in San Francisco. Reason being? Superboy-Prime, due to his emotional state killed Pantha, cuts Bushido in half with heat vision, fries Wildebeest, (again, with heat vision) yanks off Risk's arm entirely, freezes Red Star whole, and was about to go after Beast Boy, when thankfully, Bart, Wally and Jay grab him and start running very fast!

Jay ended up being forced to stop almost immediately, but Wally assured him they just needed help with the running start. Wally was pulled in another area entirely-the Flashes' objective was to get Superboy-Prime into the Speed Force-and his family went with him. That left Bart-Kid Flash-on his own, and thanks to a few jibes from Superboy-Prime, Bart got real pissed off and started punching him, until his grandfather-Barry Allen, also a Flash-appeared and grabbed hold of the Boy of Steel. Bart's former mentor, Max Mercury-back in his Young Justice days-came as well, along with another guy named Johnny, and they were all able to get Superboy-Prime inside...only for Jay, and us readers, to find out that the Speed Force is now gone.

Sadly, it looks like, at least, one part of Alexander Luthor's plan could succeed. Flamebird, along with the majority of the JSA-save for Stargirl-vanished, and now Earth-2 has been restored. The question is, what could this mean for the current Earth?

Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #22

This part starts where Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man left off-with Spidey confronting his old body-that had been eaten by those pirate spiders, and left behind what could become a new foe for him. It was stated to him as such: spiders don't have stingers. But, in the future, as they evolve, Peter himself did just that-evolved. Yet, a cost had to be made. Spider-Man defines his possible newest adversary; vice versa. What he is, it is not; what he is not, it is. As he evolves, it evolves. Translation: Evolve or Die. (Intriguing connection here, hmm?)

Throughout the remainder of the issue shows Spidey conversing with his fellow partners in the Avengers, Mary Jane, Dr. Strange and Aunt May about what has happened to him over the course of one week-though, for us, it's been three months. The last two pages shows that...spider-being encased in a cocoon. It *did* say to Spidey as he evolves, it evolves. Looks like the end results won't be discovered until next week, with the exciting conclusion on The Amazing Spider-Man #528.

The quote for today comes from my purchased Batgirl issue and one of my two purchased Spider-Man issues.

"...It's okay. You saved them." -Stephanie Brown, Batgirl #72

"Long story short: I embraced the spider." -Spider-Man

"Well, it looks like he's embracing you back." -Mary Jane, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4
